Announcement: Yale Journal of Music & Religion (YJMR)

Yale Institute of Sacred Music (ISM) announces the launch of a new peer-reviewed, open-access journal of interdisciplinary scholarship, the Yale Journal of Music & Religion (YJMR). The first issue will be published on January 1, 2015.

YJMR aims to provide a forum for the study of sacred music in all of its ritual, artistic, and cultural contexts. [The biannual journal will publish substantial scholarship on religious music of all traditions across a range of methodologies, encouraging the study of the full array of musical, ritual, literary, and other artistic forms that co-constitute the worlds of beliefs and practices.] The first issue will feature topics including meditative visualization and musical gesture in Tibetan Chöd liturgies, the reception history of J. S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio in relation to his St. Mark Passion, and sacred music in the early American colonies New Spain, New France, New Netherland, and New Sweden. Robin Leaver is the general editor. Associate editors are Philip Bohlman, Markus Rathey, and Suzel Reily; Joanna Murdoch is the managing editor.

The journal is accepting submissions of research articles and case studies for future issues. For guidelines and more information, visit the website athttp://elischolar.library.yale.edu/yjmr/
