ò/~” – Matteo Nizzardo (Isthmaél)

Title:

ò/~”

Materials:

Audio-visual, Digital

Description:

ò/~” is a 2:14-minute audio-visual piece focusing on the inbreaking of God, understood as a sudden and yet inescapable interruption of an otherwise immutable cycle. The piece is a montage of cuts from documentary footage about mentally ill people in Mental Health Institutes (Prelinger Archives, 1940). Their repetitive movements constitute a double metaphor of the inbreaking, for they are glitches of a reality that is wrongly perceived throughout a normative dichotomy. Mistakenly understood as cracks in the wall of a sacred edifice, they are instead the light that through those cracks penetrates into the darkness and there generates shadows.

Bio:

Isthmaél is an artistic audio-visual project, centered on the production of abstract music (musique concrète / noise music / glitch music) and experimental montages. Although almost all the manipulation involved in Isthmaél’s projects is digital, great importance is given to non-digital sound and video sources, usually related to human activities and sampled/recorded within their own environment. Isthmaél’s first EP, Hiwo was released on February 2020 by Mossa Records (ITALY), and can be found here and on youtube.
