Jen Schmidt is a poet and visual artist from Southern California. She received her Bachelor's in English and Creative Writing from Biola University in Los Angeles, during which she studied briefly at Wycliffe Hall at the University of Oxford, where she heard about the Institute for Theology, Imagination, and the Arts at the University of St. Andrews. In 2019 she received her Masters from ITIA with a dissertation on space and sound in Scots poetry. While at St. Andrews, she performed a Scots dialect poem from former Edinburgh makar Christine De Luca, whose work she later studied for her dissertation. Jen continues to research the theological and philosophical implications of sound and space, as well as her long-time love of linguistics, in specifically Scots, Old English, and Old Norse.
